Mt. Eccles is a pre-kindergarten
through sixth grade NCLB
Blue Ribbon School, providing quality education for 180 students.The school has ten classroom teachers
as well as music/band, physical education, special education, and
English
Language Learners teachers. Our academic program includes technology,
physical
education with all classes participating in swimming weekly. Music is
provided
twice weekly with daily band for fifth and sixth graders.Mt. Eccles offers
elementary students the opportunity to participate and compete in the
State
Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Battle of the Books, as well as various
contests
that are approved by the State of Alaska and Federal Government.
The school works in unison with the
City of Cordova who
provides the use of the city library, pool, and museum.Mt. Eccles also partners with the
Prince William Sound Science Center and US Forest Service who provides
the
students with monthly science hands-on classes and field trips.These partners along with the Chamber
of Commerce include our K-6 students in quality “Sea Week”, and the
international “Shorebird Festival” activities.The
community health nurse provides maturation education
classes for the fourth through sixth graders and our local law
enforcement are
involved in gun safety and the DARE program.
Our school will be under construction
during the 2009/2010
and 2010/2011 school years. When we are finished we will have a
renovated
school with updated electrical, plumbing, heating and new classrooms.
We will
also have a brand new gymnasium, band room, and a large playground area
on top
