Cordova School District School Bus Rules
2023-2024 School Bus Schedule (pending changes with new enrollment information)
The Cordova School District uses the Avalanche Protocol as a guide regarding avalanche forecasts and snow observation information.
Steve “Hoots” Witsoe provides local avalanche forecasts and snow observation information.
Parents and community members are invited to receive current avalanche forecasts and snow observation information.

School Bus Avalanche Protocol
| Hazard | Expected Avalanche Activity | Protocols |
|---|---|---|
| LOW | Avalanches are unlikely. | The school bus will follow the normal route, east on the highway and back to town on the loop road. No stops will be made in the high hazard area, between Cunningham's and Johnson's. |
| MODERATE | Avalanches are possible, but are expected to terminate above the highway. | The school bus will follow the normal route, east on the highway and back to town on the loop road. No stops will be made in the high hazard area, between Cunningham's and Johnson's. |
| CONSIDERABLE | Avalanches are probable and may affect the highway, but are expected to terminate above the highway. | The school bus will travel the loop road in both directions. No stops will be made in the high hazard area, between Cunningham's and Johnson's. |
| HIGH | Avalanches are expected to affect the highway. | The school bus will only go as far as the 5 mile firehouse. |
| EXTREME | Numerous and/or large avalanches are expected to affect the highway. | The school bus will only go as far as the 5 mile firehouse. |
Current avalanche activity is an important factor in avalanche forecasting. Please report all observed avalanche activity.
